Are you curious about how much time I spend working each week?
Or what about how I even ended up on this path of being a Marketing Coach for yoga teachers?
Well friend, you’re in luck because in this episode I’m answering all your questions during a live Q&A. My Community Manager, private yoga teacher and friend, Megan Spears, interviewed me for this episode to hear how the last year of podcasting has been and then I answered your questions.
Let’s get into it!
Would you share a little of your background? Did you study marketing in college? I believe I heard you used to be in marketing in corporate America so how did you transition all your knowledge to online businesses?
Went to the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and started out with a major in Journalism.
I realized that wasn’t for me and changed my major to Marketing/Communications
I graduated with my bachelors and masters from UF in Marketing/Communications
Moved to OK and started to work in corporate
Gained a ton of experience and then was laid off almost 10 years later
I used that experience to help me start a business on my own
I took the information from using big budgets and big audiences and applied it to a small budget and audience (0). It took time and doing things wrong but I did it and now help yoga teachers do the same thing.
How many hours per week do you spend working? Is this full-time for you?
Yes this is my full time job!
I work about 40 hours a week at this and really do my best to cap it at that.
I do my best not to work nights and weekends to have a better balance with life
How do you handle interruptions and emergencies that come up when you have a to-do list?
It depends on the situation.
There are some emergencies where you have to drop everything and attend to the emergency situation.
But other times, I’m able to take a breath and assess the situation a little more.
What this looks like for me is immediately looking at Asana (my daily task management system) and assessing what can be put off to the next day.
This requires knowing what you can let drop off which takes time and reflection. The truth is that not everything has to get done, always. There are things that can drop off your list easier than other things, make sure to dig in so you know what that is for you and your business.
What do you like to do for fun?
Spending time with friends
Coffee and wine
Reading - lots of business now but I love fiction too
Listening to podcasts
Eat avocados =)
Do you enjoy traveling?
Yes, very much!
I did a lot of it when I was in corporate so I took a bit of a break for a while but I do love it
My hubby and I have big plans to do more travel in the next few years too
How to assess when it’s time to hire a VA or social media assistant. How to measure when you “don’t want to” vs “don’t have the skills”. When is the learning curve too much?
When you start to drop balls as you’re juggling them
If you’re struggling to make progress on a project that you want to get done
When this happens look to your systems and see if there’s something you need to change first, then you can look at hiring someone
Decide if hiring a VA for a specific job/project is better than one that’s ongoing
Don’t outsource things simply because you don’t want to do something if you haven’t done it successfully yourself yet. Ex: social media and copywriting
If you can’t give the VA keys to success, the work won’t be a good return on your investment
How is having a marketing coach different from a VA (virtual assistant)?
A coach will give you information and then you will take on the tasks and make it happen
A virtual assistant will do the tasks for you
Do you prefer to work with clients 1:1 or within a group, or you enjoy the mix of both?
I love the mix right now
1:1 is great because you can make amazing progress!
Groups are great because of the incredible support you get from the group.
As the business grows, I will likely have to do less and less 1:1 work but for now I’m enjoying the mix of the two
Here are ways you can work with Amanda:

Work with Amanda 1:1 for 3 months or a full day of business planning - https://www.marketingyogawithconfidence.com/coaching
Enroll in one of my courses & stay tuned for more courses to come - https://www.marketingyogawithconfidence.com/course
How do you see your business growing/transitioning in the future?
As my audience grows I will likely have more courses and online offerings to serve more yoga teachers at once.
My passion is to help as many yoga teachers as possible in the most effective way possible so this will always be the compass
I have a course idea that I’m working on now about launching a new offer.
I’m thinking about doing tiers in my membership so you can self select and choose which level is right for you.
I would love to build some curriculum for YTT’s to help more YTT’s have business and marketing information included in their trainings.
I would love to do some in-person retreats for business planning and they will be fabulous! Think comfy robes, a chef and a spa day! It will be pricey and worth every dang penny =)
